Joseph Cannon
I build software for Christian families and the churches that serve them, and I write about doing that work well.
The short version
I'm the founder of Genesis Labs and Shprd. Genesis Labs builds software for pastors, churches and the households they serve. Shprd is its first app: a family discipleship app that puts Bible reading, chores, rewards and the family calendar in one place, built for whoever leads the home.
My wife and I are building it ourselves, on our own money. I write most of the code, working with a set of Claude Code agents I built for the job.
Before this, I served 21 years in the U.S. Navy, from 2003 to 2024, and retired as a Senior Chief Machinist's Mate. I earned an MBA from Liberty University in 2018, and I've been a member of Professional Photographers of America since 2014.
Life and faith belong together, and the tools that serve a family's faith deserve the same craft we expect from the software that runs our work.
Work together
I take on a small number of faith-based AI consulting engagements, and Shprd is onboarding its first families.
